A narrative photographic approach: opening day ceremonies for Iran’s Nature Schools

Abstract Opening Day photographs appeared in Iran’s newspapers celebrating the succession of outdoor Nature Schools commencing each year from 2014. Using a narrative photographic approach, this qualitative study collected and analysed newspaper pictures for half decade to 2017. At time, government approval reflected careful planning develop these new educational opportunities. Seven news media articles were thematically period utilising twelve pictures. This method provides another layer understanding beyond official statements intention, formal or written text. Through local features schools, pattern national intention endorsement can be seen, but also an awareness invisible rules permitting learning experiences. What do images tell us about environmental opportunity generation schoolchildren? How portray urban need outdoors? Are there clues subsequent shutting down denying further expansion? These their own story alongside narratives embodied ceremonies statements. We conclude schools meeting strongly-felt outdoors highly urbanised contemporary Iran.
